Round Up

Blimey last week was a long one. And it had it all I think – fab acceptances, brilliant editors (see below) disappointing rejections, one of my favourite stories going live at a place I really love, and so on.

And discovering that I’ve a medical appointment next week which makes it impossible for me to read at Sparks in Brighton. I had been looking forward to that very much, and to meeting up with some lovely people while I was down there. But, as I’m trying to be sensible, my health  has to come first. I sincerely hope that I’ll have another opportunity to read there. (Incidentally, it was another medical appointment last week which stopped doing something else I’d been really looking forward to doing. I guess it’ll all make sense in the grand scheme of things.)

On a more positive note, I spent a good chunk of yesterday fiddling with my website. It has had a face lift. I reckon it looks okay. (It does, doesn’t it?)
***
I really enjoyed reading Miriam Drori’s thoughts on writing and place, a follow up to what I’d written on that same subject on Tania Hershman’s blog a little while ago.
***
And I notice that there are a few familiar names there on the Manchester Blog Awards shortlist. Congrats to all involved.
And I think that’s about all for now. Enjoy your Sundays, everyone.

[ADDED…]
I’m planning to give the money raised by the sale of the 20 Photos & 20 Stories book (scroll to the bottom of the page) to the Alzheimer’s Society at some point over the next couple of weeks, so if any one would like to buy a copy (£15 inc p&p) then now would be a great time to do it.

  1. Hi NikJust read 'Two Old Women Birdwatching…' over at Metazen and wanted to say I really like it. I like that he finds solace and comfort in such an unusual place. Great last line, too.

  2. Thanks V (dudette). I know, I couldn't be cool if I tried. Frank and Jessica: Mwah!Teresa, hi – lovely to see you here and lovely to know you liked it. That's always nice to hear! Thanks, Lane.Nik

  3. The website does look lovely!Anyone considering buying a copy of 20 photos & 20 stories should absolutely do so. It's beautifully done and for a very important cause.

  4. I love your website a lot. It;'s very clean. Not that being clean is necessary normally, but in websites I think it is.Also, you love autumn, which is hugely sensible.

  5. Thank you, Nicola. I liked that it was clean too. But for all you know I could be a season pragmatist – changing that bit, well, four times a year. I'm not. I do genuinely love the autumn. Just saying. 🙂
