Two bits of rather splendid news today. The first is that the brilliant Andrew Kaufman (you can see my review of his brilliant The Tiny Wife here – it was also my book of the year, last year) has read Freaks! – and he’s had this to say about it.

That, quite rightly, makes me very happy.
The second is that the book has been printed! Our most wonderfully splendid publisher received the parcels today. Here’s a little snap he took from The Friday Project HQ:

And in other news it’s World Book Day. I did a morning short story session at my local library, and shortly I shower, find some food, and head off to Congleton to be a part of a panel. I think we’ll be talking about books that are significant to us. I think I know which I’ll be talking about. I’d love to know yours…

Congleton has got to be one of the best names for a village I’ve heard for a while. Significant is a big word. I suppose It would be ‘A Clockwork Orange’ as I got given to me when I was 16 by my English teacher and made me realise that books could be much, much better than any other medium.
And it has a great cover.

What a great World Book Day you’re having. Great stuff, Nik. Can’t wait to get my hands on Freaks! Though I am not allowed to buy new books this year, I pre-ordered this last year and as such can enjoy it with a clear conscience.
That’s what I like to hear! And yep, it was fun, if not a bit knackering!
Oh and my book would have to be Treasure Island….first book I remember staying up late reading with my torch, must have been 8 or so. I re-read it every year or two. Read it to my lads just last month, they loved it too.
Ooh yes. A proper classic!
