Winner

I was told, last night, by the lovely folks at the library where I run my writing group that the event we/they put on for World Book Day (I blogged about it here here and here) raised the most money in the area for Book Aid.

So three cheers for the library. Three cheers for the group who read wonderfully. And three cheers to all my supercool author chums who donated their books to be raffled.

World Book Day

Today’s World Book Day event was a success. And it was enjoyable. We had a decent turnout for the reading, which was good. And they all seemed to like my stories and the one, written for World Book Day here in the north west, by Zoe Lambert.

I think the most pleasing thing from my point of view was how well the writing group members read – they were all really great. So well done, them.
It was also pleasing to raise almost £80 for Book Aid – that’s a fair few books.
So thanks to all who came, who gave up their Thursday lunchtimes and to all you supercool authors who donated books.
I think there will be pictures tomorrow courtesy of Hannah.

World Book Day Raffle Books List

Here’s a list (really, for the benefit of those who might be interested in buying a ticket) of all the books I’ve received for the World Book Day/Book Aid raffle – and above is a pic of how I’ve arranged them. Not quite as impressive as L’s classroom displays but I have, I feel, done myself proud.

A huge thanks to all who’ve contributed and to all whose books are in transit/waiting to be sent. I really, really, hope what we raise does justice to your generosity.

And they just keep coming

So all in all, so far, there will be twenty books (inlcuding mine, plus stuff our group have put out) going into the raffle (it looks like that’s the fairest way of doing things) for the World Book Day/Book Aid event. I now have three in my office – and I only asked on Friday!

And I’m touched by the generosity I’ve seen; I really hope what we raise does it justice.
And if anyone else would like to donate a signed book then do get in touch. The people I asked were people I’m friends with and whose email addresses I had to hand. Of course, this is open to any author who’d like to be involved.
And again, a massive Thanks to those who’ve said yes.

Hurrah!

A little while ago I agreed to do an event on World Book Day. This particular event’s in aid of Book Aid, an excellent cause. And during the conversation I had with the head librarian about how we could raise any extra money I said I’d speak to some author friends and see if they’d donate a signed copy of a book that we could raffle or auction or something.

I sent an email to 19 author friends on Friday.
Today I’ve already had 13 responses, all of them only too happy to help. Which is just fantastic.
So a very large Thank You to you all for being so generous and speedy.
Hurrah!
