Beautiful

Firstly…

This came in the post today. It is very beautiful. And someone from the publishers has written my name on the inside so it’s clear who the copy belongs to. And while I’m talking about the publishers (Madras Press), you might want to check them out; individually bound short stories and novellas; proceeds going to author nominated charities, exceptionally beautiful books. Aimee Bender…
I should also say that I was alerted to the existence of the book by the wonderful Short Review.

Secondly.

I was reminded recently how much I liked the movie, Big Fish, and last night I sat down and watched bits of it (it was late so I didn’t have time to watch it the whole way through).

I love it. Definitely. And I wonder just how much of an influence it’s been on my writing – without me even noticing. Wonderful film. If you’ve not seen it – do.

This might be one of my favourite scenes from it. I love the imagery. And I think I secretly might want my life to be like that.

  1. It's ace, isn't it, Sophie! It's one of my faves, Teresa. Utterly brilliant. Yeah I read the book after I'd seen the film and I liked it. BUT I think I might actually prefer the film. This may or not have something to do with Marion Cotillard (it probably does).

  2. I have not seen 'Big Fish' but the clip you shared is brilliant! Now I need to see it.I also need to go out today and buy Aimee Bender's books! How did I not read her before?

  3. I bought the book just because I liked the film – so really it was just like re-watching it, prolonging it a little. It's hard to judge a book after you've seen and loved the film adaptation, I think.

  4. The Aimee Bender book looks so lovely. Just read The Girl In The Flammable Skirt the other week. Must. Have. This. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

  5. True, Sue!Hey Affy – I couldn't recommend Bender highly enough!Teresa, I agree. Difficult, isn't it?Hi Emma – Flammable Skirt is bloody wonderful, isn't it? Have you read Willful Creatures – I think that might be even better…
